Our family has been closely interwoven with viticulture and agriculture for centuries. Since the first documented mention of agricultural land ownership in 1655, an exceptionally high density of wine growers and wine merchants has developed in almost all lines of the Steinschaden family. The foundation stone for today’s business was laid in the 1950s by our grandfather Godfried Steinschaden. With foresight, courage and pioneering spirit, he led the family business into a new era. At an early stage, for example, he opted for high culture – the grapevine cultivation system that was to revolutionise working methods, quality and yield in viticulture. The first trial plantings took place in 1950 – ten years later, the entire vineyard area had been converted to the modern cultivation system.
